Rainy Days, Kitten Style

Rainy winter days are perfect for indoor activities, like taking pictures. Actually, I was just feeling lazy and wanted to get some shots of these little bums who kept following me around the house.

Hi mom. Can I please play with your mouse?

My little nugget waits patiently for me to get off of the computer.

I know I am beautiful.

Sharing Space

dsc_0005-2

This photo was originally very dark, with only the highlights showing on Kona’s face. As I lightened the shadows in Photoshop, something began to appear in the background. It looks like Kona is  sharing the limelight once again.

Pumpkin and Scout seem to show up everywhere Kona is. If he moves to the living room, they follow. Same with the bedroom – within a few minutes, there they are. Can’t a dog get a little privacy around here?

Scout loves his big brother

Scout tries to give Kona head-bumps and tries to cuddle with him. He used to get annoyed and walk away, but it’s useless. They just follow him.

These days, he just closes his eyes, accepts the fact that he’s sharing space, and goes to sleep.

Cheers to being popular 😊

What’s Your Favorite Dog Toy?

Happy Labor Day!

Maybe every Monday should declared a holiday, what do you think? We’ll make it a world-wide day off to include everyone outside of the U.S. as well.

The Mister is working on his boat today, so Kona and I decided to do some dog-shopping. I’ve been promising Kona a new toy for a while now, since his favorite old squeaky bone has seen better days.

Squeaky bone and I share many happy memories

This old bone is special because Kona got to pick it out. It was once covered with bright yellow tennis ball felt, but he tore the skin off and ate it.

We made our way to the local pet supply store, and as soon as we walked in, the man at the counter handed Kona a snack. Instant friends.

There were so many toys! Kona headed straight over to the Kong toys, and sniffed out his favorite giant squeaky bone. We moved over to the snack area next, where he licked some of the tasty treats on my way down the aisle.

This is MY toy. I will bring it to you and growl when you try to grab it from me. Growl = grab bone and throw so I can fetch.

For now, until he drops it into something disgusting, this Kona’s inside toy.

What kind of dog toys do your pups like to play with? Do you have a favorite that you keep going back to again and again?

The Wait

One of our favorite camping spots is in Julian, California. We woke up very early on this cold February morning and quietly spied on a group of wild turkeys hanging out near our motorhome. Kona was mesmerized.
Did you know that turkeys fly up into the trees at night to sleep? I didn’t know these big birds could fly until we heard them above us, gobbling to each other as the morning light crept in.

As they flew down and started strutting through our campground, Kona was itching to get out and chase them, but I wasn’t going to take a chance with those sharp beaks and massive talons.

This turned out to be a special trip. Sharing space so close to the turkeys gave me a new appreciation of their intelligence and social skills. Listening to them calling back and forth to each other in the darkness of the trees was pretty special. I’m sure kona experienced his own kind of appreciation for these large birds.

Besties and Fine Wine

This weekend Kona got to hang out with his two buddies, Enzo and Dexter, while I hung out with my bestie.

Enzo

Back in the old days, when they were pups, these guys chased each other around until their tongues were hanging out. There were always lots of stuffed animals around, which sometimes ended up deflated and flat after Enzo and Kona played tug-of-war with them. Dexter once had a cute pink bunny that Kona managed to decapitate.

Dexter

Dexter, being the Cavalier that he is, enjoys a lifestyle of royalty and shopping. He also loves to be cuddled and pampered. At times, he seems to be somewhat conflicted, like a human trapped in a dogs body.

After a little playing, we did some napping…

They’ve all mellowed out a bit since their puppy days, replacing stuffed animal mutilations with frequent naps.

…and rested our eyes some more while the women talked (and talked, and talked).

It’s nice to have the kind of friends where you can always pick up where you left off, no matter how much time comes in between. Maybe we’re all mellowing out with age, like a fine wine, just like the wine we enjoy when visiting with my bestie.

Cheers to a great week 🙂
